Days to Remember - CBC Archives: "CBC: Days to Remember recreates what it would have been like to watch or listen to a typical CBC broadcast day through the decades. From the earliest years of radio in the 1930s to the dawn of the internet age in the 1990s, these radio and TV clips, photos and text recall days in the life of the CBC and Canada. We've plumbed the archives to bring you the programs and personalities, daily news and diversions that shaped CBC's radio and TV schedules. "

NPR : Music by the 'Numbers Stations': "All Things Considered, November 12, 2004 Akin Fernandez's obsession with 'numbers stations' -- broadcasts of seemingly random numbers sequences that still remain officially a mystery -- led to a CD set compiling off-air recordings. It's become a cult hit. Matt Cowan reports."

NPR : The Art of the Interview, ESPN-Style:
All Things Considered, August 14, 2006 · The old saying goes, "There's no such thing as a stupid question." But in the opinion of at least one major television network, there is such a thing, and some of the least effective questions are coming from top broadcast journalists.
ESPN's John Sawatsky is tearing down icons such as Larry King and Mike Wallace as he preaches his guiding principles about how to properly conduct an interview.

NPR : Seeing in Beautiful, Precise Pictures: "Morning Edition, August 14, 2006 Because I have autism, I live by concrete rules instead of abstract beliefs. And because I have autism, I think in pictures and sounds. I don't have the ability to process abstract thought the way that you do. Here's how my brain works: It's like the search engine Google for images. If you say the word 'love' to me, I'll surf the Internet inside my brain. Then, a series of images pops into my head. What I'll see, for example, is a picture of a mother horse with a foal, or I think of 'Herbie the Lovebug,' scenes from the movie Love Story or the Beatles song, 'Love, love, love...'"J

NPR : Does Age Quash Our Spirit of Adventure?: "All Things Considered, August 15, 2006 Robert Sapolsky, a distinguished neuroscientist in his 40s, had a young assistant who played different music every day, from Sonic Youth to Minnie Pearl. That made Sapolsky crazy -- and curious about why his aging ears still crave the music he loved in college. Is there a certain age when the typical American passes from the novelty stage to utter predictability?"

NPR : 'My Lobotomy': Howard Dully's Journey: "On Jan. 17, 1946, a psychiatrist named Walter Freeman launched a radical new era in the treatment of mental illness in this country. On that day, he performed the first-ever transorbital or 'ice-pick' lobotomy in his Washington, D.C., office. Freeman believed that mental illness was related to overactive emotions, and that by cutting the brain he cut away these feelings.
Freeman, equal parts physician and showman, became a barnstorming crusader for the procedure. Before his death in 1972, he performed transorbital lobotomies on some 2,500 patients in 23 states."
