"South Park" Parked by Complaints - Yahoo! News

"South Park" Parked by Complaints - Yahoo! News: "Did Comedy Central grant the Catholic League its Christmas wish?

Following the Dec. 7 season finale of South Park, titled 'Bloody Mary,' the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights slammed the network for its irreverent portrayal of church icons and sought to block the episode from being rebroadcast.

It appears the group may have met with success. A repeat of the finale was scheduled to air Wednesday night, but was pulled from the Comedy Central lineup without explanation"

CBC Arts: US group protests inaction on TV decency violations

CBC Arts: US group protests inaction on TV decency violations: "

A major parents group in the U.S. says it is disappointed regulators did not issue any fines for on-air indecency in 2005 after a record number of penalties the previous year.

'Here 2005 is going to end … and nothing has been done all year,' says Melissa Caldwell, director of research at the Parents Television Council. The council has spearheaded a crusade against coarse language and sexual content on television and files many complaints with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The FCC can levy fines, often after an investigation and a vote by its five-member commission. It has not proposed a single fine for 2005."

CBC Arts: Dave Barry gives up humour column

CBC Arts: Dave Barry gives up humour column: "Humour columnist Dave Barry has said he will no longer write his weekly newspaper column, but will continue writing a blog.

Editor and Publisher reported Thursday that he would not resume his weekly column, but will continue to write occasional columns for the Miami Herald, where he has worked since 1983"

CBC.ca - Arts - TV - The Final Rerun: "What a shock to discover those Wire tapes would be needed in 2005, a TV season with more than a few arid patches and disappointments. For during the last 12 months, Alias and Arrested Development were cancelled. Dave Chappelle strolled away from his show. Desperate Housewives and Lost became… well, desperately lost. And Curb Your Enthusiasm stopped being funny"

The Sweater (1980)

The Sweater (1980)

This cartoon tells a humourous story that underlines the "two solitudes" element of Canadian society where two social groups, the English speaking and French speaking populations live in the same country, but can literally barely speak to or tolerate each other. This is illustrated in this story about how a boy in Quebec has to endure the terrible shame of being given the sweater of the predominate English speaking Canadian hockey team, Toronto Maple Leafs, instead of the same sweater of his idol, Maurice "Rocket" Richard of the Montreal Canadiens.
