CBC Radio One introduces new afternoon lineup (I Love Radio .org):
"CBC Radio One introduces new afternoon lineup
Canada At Five and The Roundup are gone, and a new afternoon lineup will launch on CBC Radio One starting November 7.
Afternoons will kick off with a new daily program called The National Playlist with Jian Ghomeshi. The program is a continuation of the very popular 50 Tracks, but plays more to the iPod and MP3 generation. Every day at 11:30, Jian and Shelagh Rogers will bring together musicians, actors, producers and even politicians to debate which tracks will find a place on the ever-evolving list. From oldies, to classic rock, to the cutting edge of the Canadian independent scene, the audience will get the final say about what remains on the list.
Freestyle, with Vancouver-based hosts Kelly Ryan and Cameron Phillips, will be replacing The Roundup. This national show is an ongoing conversation about things that make the cut at the water cooler -- life, leisure and the newest trends -- mixed with a daily dose of pop music.
CBC Radio will be making changes to local programming in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Toronto by extending the afternoon drive shows, which will now begin at 3 p.m. in these markets.
It will also significantly augment its news offerings in the afternoon. It will add a new national newscast called The World This Hour, hosted by Marcia Williams. It will run at 4 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. replacing Canada at Five. The World at Six remains."
