Online Consultation on Television Services - Welcome

Online Consultation on Television Services - Welcome : "To learn more and to share your thoughts, please select a topic from the navigation bar on the left side of this page.

The TV industry is transforming like never before – more channels, more ways to access TV shows, more competition, new technologies and challenging economic times. These factors are influencing your programming choices, expectations and viewing habits.

The CRTC is looking at whether it should change its regulation to allow the industry to adapt so that Canadians can benefit from the broadcasting system. Among the different options under consideration, we are studying whether local television stations should be able to charge cable and satellite companies for distributing their programs. Cable and satellite companies do not currently pay a fee for local TV signals and must distribute them as part of their basic service."

InsideTheCBC.com The CRTC Wants to Hear From You: "As part of the ongoing deliberations around the fee-for-carriage hearings, the CRTC is asking for comments from Canadians on the affordability of local TV, access to local programming and other issues.

To this end the CRTC has set up a web site where you can submit your views. The comments will form part of the public record on the issue and some of them will be included in a special report for the government."

Expand the Flight | Aviva Community Fund

Expand the Flight | Aviva Community Fund: "Laser Eagles is a successful Art Guild located in South Etobicoke. Ten artist with physical limitations create art with the support of facilitators called trackers. These trackers hold the brush and paint while the artist tells them what the picture should look like. Since many of the artists cannot speak or use their hands, the relationship between artist and tracker is unique, empowering and transformative!

Our idea is to expand Laser Eagles and make it available to people everywhere in Toronto."

Toronto educator dies after contracting swine flu - The Globe and Mail

A Toronto educator working at a Canadian school in Hong Kong has died after contracting the H1N1 swine flu.

Alan Dick, lower school principal at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong, fell ill on Sept. 20, the school said in a letter. He took the week off, but attended a meeting with school director Dave McMaster on Thursday.

Three days later, Mr. Dick, 55, was admitted to hospital, and “his condition deteriorated rapidly and he passed away in the afternoon of the same day,” Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection said

Canadian International School of Hong Kong - In Celebration of Alan Dick

Canadian International School of Hong Kong - In Celebration of Alan Dick

For many of our students and their parents, Alan Dick personified the Canadian International School. Alan joined us in 1994, when the school was just three years old. A passionate and dynamic educator, and a proud Canadian, Alan created an incredible legacy through his contribution to the development of our school and our community.

He did so not from behind closed doors, but with tremendous personal warmth and charisma. Each and every day, he greeted students at the school entrance, addressing every child by name. Every afternoon, he sent them home the same way. It was all part of creating the "Smile Factor", which was his personal measure of the success of our school. At assemblies that Smile Factor was infectious, as Alan led the children in singing songs ranging from O Canada to the Hokey Pokey. He taught children what it is to be a global citizen, and what it was to be a Canadian.

He also imbued his students with a love of school, a love of learning and a love of education (even if they didn't realize it) by making the school a loving place. Every Valentine's Day he gave out cinnamon hearts brought back especially from Canada. He was a great hugger, and loved to visit the children in class, where he disrupted many an individual lesson, to teach a far larger lesson. In some respects, Alan was a perpetual kids, with his Funny Bunny, Winnie the Pooh staff badge, silly ties, and extraordinary Hallowe'en costumes, but always underpinned with a very adult approach to education. His playful approach won the children's hearts and so, their minds.

Justifiably, Alan was hugely proud of CDNIS, and loved to share that on his weekly tours of the school for the parents of potential students. He was particularly proud of the Leo Lee Arts Centre (LLAC) which he helped design. Although pink was Alan's favourite colour, he chose yellow, his favourite decorative colour, for the lobby. The art on the walls of the LLAC and throughout the school is another of Alan's celebrations of our students, and reflected his own interest in art.

Personally, Alan enjoyed sharing the finer things in life, appreciating wine, martinis, music and art. He traveled extensively but was happiest here, in Hong Kong, and at his cottage in Ontario. As a global citizen, Alan himself bridged two cultures, Canadian and Chinese.

Alan, 55, joined CDNIS from the Canadian Overseas Secondary School in Hong Kong, arriving here in 1990 from Canada where he served as Principal of the Mittimatalik School of Pond Inlet in Nunavut, in the far north. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Education, an Honours Degree in Science and a Masters Degree in Theology, all from the University of Toronto. A dedicated life-long learner himself - the book "The Learning Leader" remains on his desk, now a testimony to the way he sought to live.

Alan is survived by a sister, a brother and his parents.

He was an extraordinary character, larger than life and living life large, and he will be sorely missed as an educator and a friend.

Saint Patrick's Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saint Patrick's Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated worldwide by the those of Irish descent and increasingly by non-Irish people (usually in New Zealand, Australia, and North America). Celebrations are generally themed around all things Irish and, by association, the colour green. Both Christians and non-Christians celebrate the secular version of the holiday by wearing green, eating Irish food and/or green foods, imbibing Irish drink (such as Irish stout, Irish Whiskey or Irish Cream) and attending parades."

Pi Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pi Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Pi Day and Pi Approximation Day are two holidays held to celebrate the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is technically March 4, but observed on March 14 (3/14), due to π being roughly equal to 3.14 and the general population being unaware of numeric radixes. Pi Approximation Day is observed on July 22, due to π being roughly equal to 22/7.

Pi Minute is also sometimes celebrated on March 14 at 1:59 p.m. If π is truncated to seven decimal places, it becomes 3.1415926, making March 14 at 1:59:26 p.m., Pi Second (or sometimes March 14, 1592 at 6:53:58 a.m.)."

buschic's Thoughts - 80 things that girls NEED to know about guys..

buschic's Thoughts - 80 things that girls NEED to know about guys..

I found this on THE WEB [Thanks Em]

80 things girls should know before and during a relationship!

1. Guys hate sluts even though they have sex with them!
(oh yeah..you're not "popular" if you've slept with more than ALOT OF GUYS..you're a HOE)

2. "Hey, are you busy?" or "Are you doing something?" ~ two phrases guys open with to stop from stammering on the phone.

3. Guys may be flirting around all day but before they go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about.

4. Before they call, guys try to plan out a little about what they're gonna say so there aren't awkward pauses, but once he's on the phone he forgets it
all and makes it up as he goes.

5. Guys go crazy over a girl's smile when there attracted to them

6. Guys will do anything just to get you to notice him.

7. Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend or ex love-interest. Unless they're goin for the let-her-complain-to-you-and-then-have-her-realize-how-wonderful-and-nice-you-are
method, but iether way, no matter what you say your ex boyfriend is a loser.

8. A guy who likes you wants to be the only guy you talk to.

9. Boyfriends need to be reassured often that they're still loved.

10. Don't talk about your guy friends to your boyfriend.

11. Guys get jealous easily.

12. Guys are more emotional than they'd like people to think.

13. Giving a guy a hanging message like "You know what?!..uh...nevermind.." would make him jump to a conclusion that is far from what you are thinking.
And he'll assume he did something wrong and he'll obsess about it trying to figure it out.

14. Guys are good flatterers when courting but they usually stammer when they talk to a girl they really like.

15. Girls are guys' weaknesses.

16. Guys are very open about themselves.

17. It's good to test a guy first before you trust him. But don't let him wait too long.

18. Your best friend, whom your boyfriend seeks help from about his problems with you may end up being admired by your boyfriend.

19. If a guy tells you about his problems, he just needs someone to listen to him. You don't need to give advice.

20. A usual act that proves that the guy likes you is when he teases you.

21. Guys love you more than you love them if they are serious in your relationships.

22. Guys will brag about anything.

23. Guys use words like hot or cute to describe girls. We rarely use beautiful. If a guy uses that, he likes you a whole hell of a lot.

24. Guys think WAY too much. One small thing a girl does, even if she doesn't notice it can make the guy think about it for hours, trying to figure out
what it meant.

25. Guys seek for advice from girls not other guys. Because most guys think alike, so if one guy's confused, then we're all confused.

26. Any guy could write out a rulebook or advice book for flirting, but no guy can write out a book about relationships.

27. Try to be as straightforward as possible.

28. A guy has to experience rejection, because if he's
too-good-never-been-busted, never been in love and hurt, he won't be mature and grown up.

29. If the guy does something stupid in front of the girl, he will think about it for the next couple days or until the next time he spends time with the
girl.

30. No matter how much guys talk about asses and boobs, personality is key.

31. Guys learn from experience not from the romance books that girls read and take as their basis of experience.

32. Guys worry about the thin line between being compassionate and being whipped!

33. If a guy looks unusually calm and laid back, he's probably faking it and is spazzing inside.

34. When a guy says he is going crazy about the girl, he really is. Guys rarely say that.

35. When a guy asks you to leave him alone, he's just actually saying, "Please come and listen to me."

36. Guys don't really have final decisions.

37. If a guy starts to talk seriously, listen to him. It doesn't happen that often, so when it does, you know something's up.

38. If your best guy friend seems to avoid you or is never around when you're with your boyfriend, he's probably jealous and likes you.

39. When a guy looks at you for longer than a second, he's definitely thinking something.

40. Guys like femininity not feebleness.

41. Guys don't like girls who punch harder than they do.

42. A guy has more problems than you can see with your naked eyes.

43. Don't be a snob. Guys can be intimidated and give up easily.

44. Everything in moderation. Put on makeup, wear perfume. Just not too much.

45. Guys talk about girls more than girls talk about guys.

46. Guys hate rejection, but they hate being led on even more.

47. Guys really think that girls are strange and have unpredictable decisions and are MAD confusing but somehow are drawn even more to them.

48. A guy would give his left nut to be able to read a girl's mind for a day.

49. No guy can handle all his problems on his own. He's just too stubborn to admit it.

50. Not all guys are assholes. Just because ONE is a jackass doesnt mean he represents ALL of us.

51. We don't like girls who are too skinny.

52. We love it when girls talk about there ass.

53. Always make sure you know what kind of stuff your getting into before making out with a guy ...like wheather it's a one time deal or not ....

54. Believe it or not shy guys are the most easiest to talk to..it may not seem right but trust me they will start opening up like books after you just
ask them questions about their lives

55. When a guy hits your butt it means that he wants you sexually.

56. Even if they refuse it all guys are ticklish on the ribs..

57. Guys love neck rubs and if he lets you keep doing it ..it means that he really likes you or his neck really hurts...

58. Guys will test the waters to see how far they can get with you. Even if he doesn't intend to it will happen. Know how far it is you want to let him
go and he will respect that...after you let him know a couple times.

59. When a guy sacrifices his sleep and health just to be with you, he really likes you and wants to be with you as much as possible!

60. We're not all as perverted as you think we all are.

61. Don't argue with us when we say you are hot, beautiful, or sexy cause if we say you're hot, beautiful, or sexy then you are. That's one of the reasons we're going out with you.

62. Don't treat us like crap, what goes around comes around.

63. Don't go into detail about your period. It scares us.

64. If you really liked us for us, you would let us think that our mustache, beard, or sideburns looked cool.

65. NEVER ask us if you can put makeup on us. It's just wrong............

66. Don't make bets about us, because one of your friends will tell us, if you don't.

67. When we tell you that you're not fat, believe us.

68. We may not be able to pee accurately all of the time, but at least we can stand up and go pee.

69. Just cause you think you're always right, doesn't mean that you don't have to apologize when you do something "wrong." and also sometimes when you're not right, we'll pretend you are anyway.

70. We can't always be spontaneous, so try to help us make the plans sometimes.

71. Don't ask us to beat up another guy for you, cause you might get what you wish for.

72. Never pretend like you are going to break up with us and laugh when we believe you.

73. Pamela Anderson's boobs aren't fake anymore, but we like your's better anyway.

74. Size doesn't matter, except to idiots who don't want a relationship.

75. PMS is not an excuse.

76. If you want us to put the seat down when we're done, you should put it up when you're done.

77. Don't tell us how cute your ex-boyfriend was. That doesn't turn us on, and we really don't care what other guys look like for that matter either.

78. And always remember: The way to a guys heart is through his stomach..... and maybe....oh nevermind...lol

79. NEVER ask us to kiss other guys. You might be that comfortable with your friends, but to us it's just wrong.

80. And for the real bitches: We always notice how funny it is after your rip out our heart, stick it down our throat, and still want to be friends.

Toronto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TORONTO [175th]

Toronto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "York was incorporated as the City of Toronto on March 6, 1834, reverting to its original native name. The population of only 9,000 included escaped African American slaves fleeing Black Codes in some states.[23] Slavery was banned outright in Upper Canada in 1834. Reformist politician William Lyon Mackenzie became the first Mayor of Toronto, and led the unsuccessful Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837 against the British colonial government. The city grew rapidly through the remainder of the 19th century, as a major destination for immigrants to Canada. The first significant population influx occurred with the Great Irish Famine between 1846 and 1849 that brought a large number of Irish to the city, some of them transient and most of them Catholic. By 1851, the Irish-born population had become the largest single ethnic group in the city. Smaller numbers of Protestant Irish immigrants were welcomed by the existing Scottish and English population, giving the Orange Order significant and long lasting influence over Toronto society."

FORREST GUMP GOES TO HEAVEN

FORREST GUMP GOES TO HEAVEN

The day finally arrived. Forrest Gump dies and goes to Heaven. He is at the Pearly Gates, met by St. Peter himself. However, the gates are closed and Forrest approaches the gatekeeper.

St. Peter said,

'Well, Forrest, it is certainly good to see you. We have heard a lot about you. I must tell you, though, that the place is filling up fast, and we have been administering an entrance examination for everyone. The test is short, but you have to pass it before you can get into Heaven.'

Forrest responds,

'It sure is good to be here, St. Peter, sir. But nobody ever told me about any entrance exam. I sure hope that the test ain't too hard.

Life was a big enough test as it was.

St. Peter continued,

'Yes, I know, Forrest, but the test is only three questions.

First:

What two days of the week begin with the letter T?

Second:

How many seconds are there in a year?

Third:

What is God's first name?'

Forrest leaves to think the questions over. He returns the next day and sees St. Peter, who waves him up, and says, 'Now that you have had a chance to think the questions over, tell me your answers'

Forrest replied,

'Well, the first one -- which two days in the week begins with the letter 'T'? Shucks, that one is easy. That would be Today and Tomorrow.'

The Saint's eyes opened wide andhe exclaimed,

'Forrest, that is not what I was thinking, but you do have a point, and I guess I did not specify, so I will give you credit for that answer. How about the next one?' asked St. Peter.

'How many seconds in a year?

Now that one is harder,' replied Forrest, but I thunk and thunk about that, and I guess the only answer can be twelve.'

Astounded, St. Peter said,

'Twelve?

Twelve? Forrest, how in Heaven's name could you come up with twelve seconds in a year?'

Forrest replied,

'Shucks, there's got to be twelve: January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd... '

'Hold it,' interrupts St. Peter. 'I see where you are going with this, and I see your point, though that was not quite what I had in mind....but I will have to give you credit for that one, too. Let us go on with the third and final question.

Can you tell me God's first name'?

'Sure,' Forrest replied,

'it's Andy.'

'Andy!' exclaimed an exasperated and frustrated St Peter.

'Ok, I can understand how you came up with your answers to my first two questions, but just how in the world did you come up with the name Andy as the first name of God?'

'Shucks, that was the easiest one of all,' Forrest replied.

'I learnt it from the song,

'ANDY WALKS WITH ME, ANDY TALKS WITH ME, ANDY TELLS ME I AM HIS OWN.'

St. Peter opened the Pearly Gates, and said:

'Run Forrest, run.'

Give me a sense of humor, Lord.

Give me the ability to understand a clean joke

To get some humor out of life,

And to pass it on to other folks.

FROM: THE DOG Dear God

FROM: THE DOG

Dear God: Is it on purpose our names are the same, only reversed?

Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?

Dear God: When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it still the same old story?

Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a Dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the 'Chrysler Eagle' the 'Chrysler Beagle'?

Dear God: If a Dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad Dog?

Dear God: We Dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?

Dear God: More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.

Dear God: Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?

Dear God: Let me give you a list of just some of the things I must remember to be a good Dog.
1. I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it or after they throw it up.
2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell.
3. The Litter Box is not a cookie jar.
4. The sofa is not a 'face towel'.
5. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.
6. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.
7. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is an unacceptable way of saying 'hello'.
8. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table .
9. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house - not after.
10. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt.
11. I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch.
12. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy' so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing.

P.S. Dear God: When I get to Heaven may I have my testicles back?

Home - Obama's Playlist | CBC Radio

Home - Obama's Playlist | CBC Radio: "49 Songs from North of the 49th Parallel
Canadians choose 49 songs from North of the 49th parallel that defines Canada to the new President.

Beginning Monday, January 5, CBC Radio 2 invites Canadians to help select the top “49 songs from north of the 49th parallel” that would best define our country to the incoming U.S. President Barack Obama.

His playlist could definitely benefit from some Canadian content, especially given the depth of our musical offerings – spanning a wide variety of genres and representing our culture from coast to coast.

“One of the best way to know Canada is through the depth and breadth of our artistic expression,” says Denise Donlon, Executive Director, CBC Radio. “We're excited about the new President and we want him to be excited about us, so we're asking our audience to help compile the list of our most definitive Canadian songs!”

A total of 49 songs will be determined.
So, what Canadian music do you think are the most definitive 49 songs from North of the 49th parallel?"
