Katrina: Jeanne Meserve Cries On CNN; "Most Riveting, Heart-Wrenching Phone Report
Meserve audibly broke into tears in a several minutes-long telephone report with Aaron Brown in NewsNight's second hour," another e-mailer explains. "As she slowly and soberly spoke of victims with severed legs, live dogs electrocuting in power lines, people crying for help outside of the reach of rescue boats, and bodies floating in New Orleans, the show became quieter and quieter, until Meserve finally wept.

Media use
Cartt News Section: "VANCOUVER As Internet-using Canadians spend more and more of their time online, it appears as though radio listenership is suffering the most because of that, according to a recent report from Ipsos Reid.
Internet-using Canadians averaged 12.7 hours per week on the web in 2005 (up 46% from 8.7 hours in 2002). The increase appears to have come at the expense of radio, primarily, as the typical Internet-using adult reports spending 11 hours per week listening to the radio, down from 16 hours per week in 2002, says the survey results.
While weekly Internet usage has surpassed radio listening, television retains the number one position among media sources with Internet-using Canadians averaging 14.3 hours of TV viewing per week. Still, the gap between Internet and TV usage is closing (a difference of 1.6 hours per week compared to 4.5 hours in 2002), with the Internet threatening to overtake television should these trends continue, says the study, called Online News and Information Seeking: What the Future Holds. CBC News: CBC promises business as usual: "The CBC says it has a 'detailed contingency plan' in place to provide programming in the event of a labour disruption that is set to begin if contract talks fail over the weekend.
'What we'll have on our airwaves will be professional and it'll be respectable,' said CBC spokesperson Jason MacDonald. 'It's not going to be the same as what people are used to seeing on the CBC, but it will be done professionally.' "

CBC Sports: Maple Leafs sign Lindros for 1 year
CBC Sports: Maple Leafs sign Lindros for 1 year: "Nearly 15 years after making his National Hockey League debut with the Philadelphia Flyers, Eric Lindros is coming home to Toronto to fulfill a lifelong dream"
Though injury prone throughout his 11-year NHL career – he has suffered eight concussions – the Big E remains a dominating force.
He had 10 goals and 22 assists in 39 games for the New York Rangers in the 2003-04 campaign before Washington Capitals defenceman Jason Doig put an end to his season with a thundering bodycheck.
Lindros, who had his right shoulder surgically repaired in March, reportedly passed a physical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam earlier this week.
"There's always a risk of something happening, but I'm working on stickhandling with my head up," he said, joking about his concussion history.
"On average, in the past three years, Eric has missed five games a year with concussions," said Carl Lindros. "That's fewer than Peter Forsberg or Jeremy Roenick. The bulk of Eric's concussions came in one year."
